So before I discovered Portfolio Oomph, my biggest frustrations were that I didn’t know what was expected of me. I didn’t know what should be in my portfolio and I think it’s something that a lot of people struggle with. So I wanted to somehow solve this. And I also wanted someone to look on my work that I already had and give me some honest feedback because I don’t think I could 100% rely on my family because they obviously will always say nice things to you.
And then another thing that I was really looking for was some guidance of what should be in a portfolio and also how I should even make it into one.
So I decided to contact Portfolio Oomph because I wanted to give myself the best shot at getting to university. First time that I applied, I wanted to find some sort of way to balance my school and my time that I would spend on making my portfolio because I was in IB (International Baccalaureate) and there was no art subject for me. So making my portfolio was just completely at home after school.
So working together was really great. And a few things that I really liked about the course was that it was quite structured in the beginning and it was more loose in the end.
So there was sort of like a learning curve that was happening of how, is how you should develop the ideas and then it was kind of obvious for you how you should actually make it. I like the way that, the way how Julie give feedback is really natural and sort of like, you can take it or not, but it’s never so straightforward that it completely changes your vision and it suddenly doesn’t become your portfolio. It always is. Yours always is unique. And I think that’s a big plus.

I learned a lot of things to name the few, definitely how to develop the ideas and how to basically put them on paper and, and show that that’s my thought process basically, which is, I think that’s something universities want to see. And also working with different materials, which I was really excited about. I discovered that for example, I real like college or editorial illustration, which I didn’t know really before. And it’s really fun.
And also it definitely gave me a clearer view of what’s expected from me.
So right now I got into four universities. I got into Brighton, which is going to be my choice [Illustration University of Brighton], to Leeds, Norwich and Bristol. And I applied to all of them for illustration because I was pretty much set on that subject. And I feel really great and proud of myself that I managed to combine school and portfolio and still got so many, so many offers.
Now that working with Julie is finished, I feel super great. I feel confident of my art and excited to start finally working on university and more in my art.
But definitely it is sort of bittersweet feeling because there’s not going to be our monthly zoom calls and all that. That was kind of, kind of like a routine almost, because half a year, it’s a bit of time.
So if you think about starting to work with Portfolio Oomph, I definitely would recommend it. Because if you feel lost, if you don’t know what’s expected of you for university, if you’re unsure what should be in your portfolio, all of these kind of questions and problems can be solved. And also, definitely it is, it is such a big opportunity to really get into universities you want, but also to create your unique portfolio.

So it definitely is not something that there’s going to be somebody going to tell you what exactly to do. It still is a lot of work, so prepare for that. But it’s definitely worth it because in the end you end up with your own unique portfolio and a much bigger chance to actually get to university.
After working together a few things that changed for me in my life and my creative life, let’s call it, would be definitely how I look on art in general, on myself, on where are the limits of myself, which is like, there’s no limits, that’s the truth. And that I can really do anything that I want and that I feel definitely just more confident overall.
So I’m very, very thankful for that feeling because I think it’s very important to feel proud and happy with your work.

My passion and mission is your art portfolio, to help to get you that place at college or university.
CLARITY, in particular around the creative process, sketchbooks, and what the Colleges actually want to see are the founding principles.
