Sketchbooks for art college
Portfolio preparation course – sketchbooks

It's coming around again soon, oh yes, schools here in Edinburgh go back this week – can you believe it!! Where we live, we just fit into the Midlothian Council area so our kids are back next week but there is nothing like that "back to school feeling". Ughhh!

However, let's turn it into a positive and think about what lovely creative projects we can get started and in that respect getting some good sketchbooks for art college underway.

We're running our Portfolio preparation course – sketchbooks at Tribe Porty on the weekend of 1&2 October to get you started (full details below). You might think this is quite early to prepare but given that Edinburgh College of Art and Glasgow School of Art have their portfolio submission dates in mid January, it's not at all.

Last year we had a number of enquiries about mentoring for ECA and GSA applications in January, which if I am honest is a little too late – in fact in my eyes a lot too late!!

So if you'd like to get to grips with what is probably about half of your portfolio then get yourself along to this course. These courses fill up fast so please do get in touch as soon as possible. To get a picture of how this course can help you also how important your sketchbooks are then please watch our video of one of our students who is now entering 2nd year Fashion at ECA.

Please book below – you can pay by Paypal or with a debit or credit card if you click "Check Out as a guest" (see image below, *). If you experience any problems please email or call us and we can process your order manually.  07815 810797

What I enjoyed most was the freedom to explore. This workshop was really well planned, current and at a good pace, relevant to my artistic development. Thanks Julie, it was great and a good re-awakening of skills I needed to re-engage with.

What is a sketchbook and how do I work in it? These are questions that we get asked over and over so we aimed to cover this in the workshop and much more. Here we go…..

Saturday Oct. 1st and Sunday Oct. 2nd 2016

10.00am – 4.00pm

Cost: £110 (book button above)

Venue: Tribe Porty19 Windsor Place, Portobello EH15 2AJ.

Learn how simple everyday objects/places can inspire individual ideas and be developed through the creative process in your sketchbook. Looking at research and development we introduce you to some exciting new artists that will spark ideas for traditional and more conceptually led artworks. Ideal for those applying to art college or anyone wanting to explore their own creativity with guidance. Some materials will be provided.

8 places minimum. First come first served basis. If we do not have the full quota we will inform you one week before the class is due to begin.

The participants of this workshop will learn how to use their art sketchbook, ideas and exploration whilst demonstrating the creative process. We'll look at research, development and support each other at various points in questioning and deciding how to develop your work, in what we call critical reflection.

I really enjoyed learning how to apply the theory of the design process to the reality of practice. The workshop covered exactly the material I wished to explore and it was helpful to understand the criteria applied to a portfolio. This course offered value for money and I would recommend Portfolio Oomph.  Alison Currie

We will be using our Pinterest boards to explore a range of great artists who demonstrate strong ideas based work. There are also some great examples of art sketchbook ideas that really give you some help in how to approach the idea of using a sketchbook.
