I've been very inspired by film and video art in its various guises recently.
One being Terrence Malick's 'Tree of Life' film with fascinating creative cinematography. Quite a tragic story involving the death of a young boy and his parent's coming to terms with it. It tracks the relationship of the boy with his parents through childhood. Visually stunning this film is creatively filmed, edited and the sound is superb.
It does get rather indulgent I felt in places where Malick is keen to visually represent the creation of life, it's rather laboured. However, it's inspired me to get filming again to produce some short pieces for galleries.
View the trailer below for some beautiful cinematography.
I went off our with our daughter yesterday afternoon with the intention of taking some film footage of her to start testing some ideas. We went to the beach, the light was intense, dark and I managed to get just a couple of bits filmed. She said she didn't want to do it, it was too scary – don't really know what was scary to be honest – that's 4 year olds for you!
Here's still from a small piece that I took….what can you do this week to get a video art, film or photography project started? I'd love to hear your comments below.
